Psychological Services
The Psychological-Educational Service (PES) is located at the intersection of the education system, parents, and the community system, and provides services to children, parents, educational staff, and the local education system. The accessibility of educational psychologists as agents of health and mental well-being is of utmost importance. The likelihood of children receiving educational psychological services at key junctures in their development, especially in the early stages, depends on the proximity and accessibility of the service to the child and their family.
The educational psychology service has about 28 psychologists and provides services to a variety of populations, from kindergarten children up to age 18 and in special education up to age 21. Educational psychologists are located within the kindergarten and school system, in both regular and special education. Every school and kindergarten has an educational psychologist who can be contacted. In preschools, the psychological service can be contacted on a case-by-case basis through the kindergarten teachers.
The educational psychologist service operates in the educational system in a number of areas:
- Systemic counseling
- Individual assessments
- Individual and group therapy and parent guidance.
- Intervention in crisis and emergency situations.
Educational psychology is based on the concept of continuous development from birth to adolescence, through the investigation and understanding of the processes that occur during growth and the aspiration to provide professional support for the child's development, their parents, family, and educational environment. The academic and practical training of educational psychologists gives them the professional ability to provide psychological services that include: assessment, intervention, prevention, health promotion, and the development of programs for the benefit of the public they serve.
