Year of Establishment: 15th century BCE
Origin of Name: First mentioned as one of the cities of Canaan conquered by Thutmose III (1447-1501 BCE). It was liberated by the IDF's 89th Commando Brigade during Operation Dani on the 5th of Tammuz 5708 (11 July 1948.)
Jurisdictional area: 13,500 dunams (3335 Acres)
Location: In the center of the coastal plain, at the crossroads between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Population: Lod has approximately 95,000 residents, of whom 72.5% are Jewish Israelis and approximately 27.5% are Israeli Arabs.
- Approximately 33% of the city's population are new immigrants who arrived after 1990, including 11,860 immigrants from the former Soviet Union, 2,680 immigrants from Ethiopia, and 10,380 immigrants from other countries.
- 36.6% of the total population are children under the age of 18, and 12.4% are aged 65 and over.
- The average number of people per household is 4.3 (7.1 in the Arab sector).
- Approximately 85% of the young people enlist in the IDF.
