The Sports Department works to strengthen grassroots sports while encouraging competitive activities, with an emphasis on sports culture as an educational tool and with the aim of building a foundation for outstanding athletes in Lod and promoting a healthy lifestyle from early childhood to senior citizens.

The Sports Department is responsible for a wide range of activities, renting sports facilities, and organizing sporting events, including: local, regional, and national competitions; sporting events such as the Lod March, the Lod Race, a bicycle tour for people with special needs, a workplace sports league, a community basketball league, a Mamma Net league, and more.

In addition, the Sports Department is responsible for maintaining and upgrading sports facilities and infrastructure, planning and constructing new sports facilities, physical education in schools, developing new sports activities and initiatives, establishing sports associations in new sports (gymnastics, judo, pétanque, and more), and providing residents with solutions to problems related to sports and sports facilities.

The Department's vision: “To promote a healthy lifestyle for residents and raise awareness of sports as part of education and culture among the entire population of the city.”

The sports system in Lod involves the Municipality, Lod Economic Development, schools, sports associations, private entrepreneurs, and residents.
